How many of us walk into a clothes shop and say “I’m looking for a dress in a 13st 7lbs?”

Exactly we don’t! So why is it when we’re unhappy with the way our body looks we get fixated on what the scales say and not what the inches are telling us – you know what I mean right? We turn into a “slave to the scale” – if the numbers are good we’ll celebrate with food and if the numbers are bad we commiserate with food and so the cycle begins.

The problem with most “diets” is that the weight you see disappearing at the scales isn’t just fat – it’s a mixture of muscle, water and body fat. Longer term this slows our metabolism and if we continue in this cycle of “yo, yo dieting” we simply gain more body fat.
